    A father who sexually abused his teenage daughter through the 1970s killed himself after finally confessing to police, an inquest heard.

    George David Kingdom, 72, from North Hykeham, suffocated himself with a plastic bag.

    He abused his daughter Nicky Jones, who is now 49, when she was aged between 10 and 17.

    She suffered in silence for decades, cutting all ties with her dad and moving away.

    But after seeing a picture of Mr Kingdom on Facebook, Nicky plucked up the courage to tell police what happened.

  • This is Lincolnshire: Lincolnshire sausage campaigners vow to fight on after protected status refusal

    Campaigners say the fight is not over after their application to protect the Lincolnshire sausage was turned down by the Government.

    For nearly seven years, the Lincolnshire Sausage Association (LSA) has battled to obtain protective geographical indication (PGI) for the sage-flavoured sizzler.

    Approval would have meant the banger could only be made by butchers within Lincolnshire's borders and to a particular recipe.

    But the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has refused to send the application to the European Union for approval.

  • This is Lincolnshire: Lincoln City fans could get the chance to rename Sincil Bank

    Lincoln City fans could have the chance to re-name Sincil Bank – a first in the club's history.

    For £50 a ticket, fans and businesses can enter a draw with the winner naming the stadium for the 2012/13 season.

    The overall prize – which features a range of perks, including boardroom hospitality for two at the first and last home games of next season – is worth a total of £50,000.

    Proceeds from the initiative will be given to manager David Holdsworth to spend on new players.

  • This is Lincolnshire: Siemens secures historic multi-million pound manufacturing deal

    A Lincoln firm has secured one of the largest-ever manufacturing contracts in the city's history.

    Siemens clinched the multi-million pound deal to provide parts and maintenance for a major natural gas project in Australia.

    Although the firm would not release a specific amount on the deal, bosses told the Echo it was worth tens of millions of pounds.

    The six-year agreement follows "bumper" sales figures and huge investment in the business's Lincoln operations.

    As part of the contract with Santos GLNG, Siemens will build 16 small gas turbines.

  • This is Lincolnshire: Lincoln City stadium sponsorship could put £50k into Holdsworth's budget

    David Holdsworth urged Lincoln City fans to back the club's Name Our Stadium campaign and help him sign a star player this summer.

    The club is raffling the naming rights to Sincil Bank for just £50 a ticket, a history-making initiative which is also aimed at local businesses.

    The proceeds will be plunged into Holdsworth's budget with the club hoping to raise more than £50,000.

    And the City boss says it would make a huge difference to his transfer plans.

    "I think our financial position has been well documented," said Holdsworth.

  • This is Lincolnshire: Lincoln woman appears on Jeremy Kyle to find out who stole granddaughter's bike

    A lady who suffers from cerebral palsy has appeared on national television to find out who stole her 13-year-old granddaughter's bicycle.

    Sheila Hubbard, 54, lives on the St Giles Estate in Lincoln and her granddaughter Courtney is her night-time carer.

    But on Easter Sunday, Courtney's bike, her only mode of transport to get supplies for her grandmother, was stolen.

    So Mrs Hubbard took her story to the Jeremy Kyle show in an attempt to get the truth.

    "I asked Courtney to get me some gas but her bike had gone" she said.

  • This is Lincolnshire: Lincoln man stood on railway track in front of on-coming train

    A driver has described seeing a man on a railway track facing an on-coming train looking "like a soldier standing at ease".

    Andrew James Devereux, 31, suffered a catastrophic head injury after being hit by the 16.25 Leicester to Lincoln train at the Skew Bridge crossing, off Tritton Road, Lincoln.

    An inquest into the musician's death was held at the Cathedral Centre in Lincoln on Tuesday, May 15.

    East Midlands Trains driver Andrew Mellors told the hearing: "Visibility was reasonably good for driving a train at night – about 30 feet.

  • This is Lincolnshire: Medieval torture exhibition to open at The Collection in Lincoln

    The bloodthirsty heritage of crime and punishment will be revealed in a torture exhibition premiering in Lincoln.

    Medieval Torture Instruments opens at The Collection museum in Danes Terrace on Saturday, May 19.

    It is the first stop for the touring display and stays in Lincoln until September 2.

    The gruesome, spine-chilling exhibition contains about 50 replica objects of pain-infliction from the private collections of European collectors and historians.

    Such instruments were widely used from medieval times to the 17th century.

  • This is Lincolnshire: Heroic war driver from Lincoln celebrates 100th birthday with family from Canada

    A man who bravely drove airmen to and from Lincolnshire air bases in the dead of the night has celebrated his 100th birthday.

    Cyril Thomas Denton was born May 14, 1912, in Lincoln. The younger son of William and Fanny Denton, he is the last survivor of three children, after his brother Percy and sister Edith both died.

  • This is Lincolnshire: Lincolnshire pensioner drowned in car river plunge after police pursuit

    A MAN wanted by police drowned after his car plunged into a freezing river as officers closed in on him, an inquest was told.

    Retired businessman Michael Jewers, 69, from Billinghay, was wanted by Lincolnshire Police but it is alleged he had gone into hiding to avoid being arrested.

    Jewers spent a night sleeping in his Y-registered Hyundai Accent as officers kept a vigil outside his home.

    Officers eventually managed to force their way into the property in the early hours but failed to find Jewers.
